Music can be therapeutic: 10 Songs about miscarriages and/or hope in hard times

With my first miscarriage I had someone recommend finding songs that helped understand some of the emotions and feelings I was going through. She gave me a few songs she recommended. The first time I listened to the songs she gave me I cried. I listened to these songs over and over again because it was a way for my feelings to be put into words. Thoughts I didn't quite understand yet were already laid out in a song. A lot of times I would try to bottle up my feelings and pretend like they weren't there. Listening to music allowed me to release some of those bottled up emotions.

Studies have shown that music can be very therapeutic and can be used in many different settings as a form of therapy. I myself have seen music used therapeutically in my previous jobs. When I was a paraprofessional for children with special needs I had several children who music helped them work through "big feelings." When I was a hospice aide and worked within an assisted living setting many times residents who were dying would utilize music for palliative (comfort) cares.

I want to share a short list of songs that I've personally used during my miscarriages in hope that they may offer you comfort and clarity. If music speaks to you I highly encourage you to find some of your own songs as well and create a playlist for working through and processing your thoughts and feelings. This is just a short list to help jumpstart your playlist.
